KLARNA
Pay in 3 installments Terms
How it works
  • Use your own valid debit or credit card to pay.
  • You must be 18 years old, an Italian resident, and capable of entering into a legally binding contract.
  • The first payment is charged when the merchant confirms your order (usually the shipping date) or upon order placement, and the next 2 payments are automatically charged after 30 and 60 days after the initial payment. We will tell you the due dates via electronic communication and they are viewable in the Klarna application.
  • There are no interest charges with Pay later in 3 installments, and no fees when you follow your automatic payment schedule. If you are delayed in making a payment, we may charge late fees. Any missed installments, including any added late fees, will be rolled over and added to the next scheduled due date.
  • By choosing the Pay later in 3 installments option, you acknowledge that all payments shall be made to Klarna, following the payment information made available to you. Klarna shall have all rights to enforce any and all rights in such a receivable directly against you.
  • If you cancel your purchase or return your goods we will automatically waive the amount you owe us (as soon as this has been confirmed by the merchant). If you already paid us for a refunded order, we will refund the amount you paid back to you.
  • If you have questions about the quality or shipping of your order, please contact the merchant where you made the purchase.
  • The issuer of your card may charge interest or fees under your agreement with them. If you have any questions about those charges contact your card issuer.

You give us the authority to take the two remaining payments from your card on the due dates without any further notice to you. In the event the merchant does not charge for your entire order at the same time, we may create a different Pay later in 3 installments order for each merchant charge. Each of these order parts will have its own due date depending on when the merchant confirms that part of your order. This situation may be common where a merchant does not ship all the items from your order at the same time.

What else do I need to know?

Accepted cards and storing card details; The card used must be valid and issued to you. It is at our discretion whether you can pay with this payment option. We may limit the types of cards we accept at our discretion. If a type of card is not accepted you will be notified before the purchase is completed. Most valid credit and debit cards that are not scheduled to expire in the near future are accepted. If we accept a card we will authorize the card for the first payment at point of purchase. This amount will not be charged until the merchant confirms the order, but your card issuer may restrict your access to the authorized amount while pending.

If your card is cancelled you will immediately pay us all the remaining payments when we ask you to. If your card details change between your initial purchase and final payment, you agree to notify Klarna of your updated card information. Klarna will provide you an online method to provide these updates. If you fail to provide updated information, you authorize Klarna to obtain the updated details from your card issuer, if available. Failure to provide updated information may result in delayed payment fees.

You authorize us to store your card details on our systems. We will use this information to authorize future payments under these Terms. Unless you opt out, we may also use this information to conveniently prefill your card details for future purchases. You may manage your cards and details online. In the event Klarna obtains updated card information from your card issuer, you agree that we may store this updated information on our system.

Late payment; If we are unable to charge your selected payment method for the amount due on your due date we will send you a notification and provide you a courtesy two to seven business day slack period so that you can update your payment method or ensure enough funds are available on your selected card. If you update your card, we may attempt to collect the late payment immediately. Otherwise we will attempt to charge your original card again after the two to seven-day period. It is important that you ensure enough funds are available to complete your payment on the due dates. If we are not able to take the second instalment during the slack period we will roll over the unpaid amount to the next and final instalment, including a late fee for the missed payment.

If you fail to make a payment by the end of the courtesy slack period you will be in default, and in addition to other rights we have, we may charge you a late fee amounting to the following; i) three (3) EUR per instalment if the total order value is below 100 EUR, ii) five (5) EUR per instalment if the total order value is between 100-199.99 EUR, iii) eight (8) EUR per instalment if the total order value equals 200 EUR or above, or the maximum amount permitted by applicable law if lower. If you fail to make your payments you may be unable to use the service in the future. We may continue to attempt to collect overdue and currently due payments on subsequent due dates. If we are unable to take the outstanding amount on the third instalment we may invoice you the remaining amount for immediate payment or follow our debt collection procedures where you will have to pay all reasonable costs incurred by Klarna and/or the debt collection agency.

Credit report access, identity check and reporting; Klarna will verify your identity when you apply to utilize this payment option. Identity verification is done in order to comply with anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing requirements and to prevent fraud. You will have to provide Klarna with necessary information and documentation requested to verify your identity. We may also verify information you have provided against a third party database.

We may carry out a credit search on you at a credit reference agency. This search may affect your credit score and your chances of obtaining a credit in the future. We will inform you if you cannot have access to this Pay Later in 3 installments based on the result of such database search. We may also validate your card and request authorisation from your card issuer. In this case there will be no entry shown on your credit file for these payments. Late payments, missed payments, or other defaults on your purchase may be forwarded to the credit reference agency and be reflected in your credit report which could impact your credit score.

Early repayment and returns; You can pay any remaining payments at any time and we will not charge you for doing so. If you cancel your purchase we will cancel any remaining payments and pay back to your card any amounts we have taken. Any part returns or refunds credited to your purchase will reduce your outstanding balance, but do not count as payments. You will need to continue to make your previously disclosed payments at scheduled due dates until your balance is paid in full. If you have a credit balance you authorize us to credit the balance back to your card, or any other card we have on file for you.

Dealing with our rights and obligations: We may assign or novate to any person or entity or otherwise deal in any manner with any of our rights, remedies, powers, duties, obligations or interests under this agreement and you consent to us assigning or novating this agreement.

Default: You will be in default if you: (a) fail to make any payment by the due date after any applicable slack period(s); (b) supply false, misleading, or incorrect information to us; or (c) violate or are unwilling to comply with any provision in the payment option terms.

If you are in default, or subject to insolvency or bankruptcy proceedings, Klarna may: (a) charge the outstanding balance, including late fees, on your Pay later in 3 installments purchase immediately, using any card we have on file for you or by a separate invoice; (b) employ a debt collection agency to receive payment and you will have to pay all reasonable costs (including attorney’s fees) incurred by Klarna and/or the debt collection agency; and (c) report default information to credit reporting agencies.

We will try to solve your complaint as soon as possible and in any case within 14 days. If we are unable to solve your complaint, or you have been dissatisfied with Klarna's response, or have not received a response within the said time limit, you may choose between the following two routes to pursue your claim:

  1. You may address it to the Italian Banking Financial Arbitrator (Arbitro Bancario Finanziario or “ABF”). In a nutshell, the ABF is an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) institution which is frequently used by customers in Italy because it is generally speedier and cheaper than the Court. Should you be dissatisfied by the ABF’s resolution or should Klarna not comply with a resolution which is favorable to you, you may still go to Court. For further information about the ABF you can either consult the website www.arbitrobancariofinanziario.it or enquiry the Branches of the Bank of Italy or Klarna;
  2. You may opt for the Court route rather than the arbitration alternative above, but you are obliged to first attempt finding a solution through a mediation procedure which you may start with:
